Twisted Pine

 I have neglected my black and white prints for the last year, while I concentrated on larger scale multi colour work (which I plan on posting - sometime!).

But the lure of black and white has brought me back to one of my favourite subjects - pine trees. Available here.

Last summer at the Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition I saw this wonderful pattern on a black and white dress.  The woman wearing the dress told me it was from Brazil and let me take a photo of the pattern so that I could make this print.  Available here.

Blowing Skirt

I was watching a video of the Valentino Fall/Winter 2015 collection which was full of black and white squares and triangles and stripes.  Just perfect inspiration for this print!  Available here:

Block 232 - Full Frontal

I recently completed this large linocut print of the facade of an apartment block in Singapore.  The repetition of the windows is almost dizzying, but if you look closely the facade is not symmetrical.  How strange for a building of a slightly older vintage.  Available here.

I will also be showing this print at the Toronto Artist Project in February 2015.

The print is based on a photograph by Horst Kiechle.  He is a Flickr contact and over the past year or two I have made a number of prints based on his photography of Singapore architecture.

Art Walk North

I am participating in Art Walk North in North York (Mel Lastman Square)this weekend. 

One of the few or only outdoor art shows in Toronto NORTH of Bloor.  In fact most of the outdoor shows go no further north than Queen Street, which might as well be in the middle of Lake Ontario as far as most of the city is concerned!

The Mindy Project ...

... is a show on Fox and my Alexandria print will be used in one of the sets in the upcoming season!  This is a first for me!

Toronto Outdoor Art Exhibition

Back in the show!  This is a juried show - so sometimes you are in and sometimes you are not!  This year there are only 8 printmakers out of a show of 348 artists.  I don't know if there are not many of us applying or if our work isn't to a high enough standard.  Hmm.

Baobab Tree

Linoblock print of a Baobab tree from Madagascar.  Strangely enough I once saw these trees in a tree nursery on Hainan Island in China. Available here.

One of a Kind Christmas Show Gift Guide

Early last summer the One of a Kind Show asked me to bring in some of my journals and papier mache items for photo shoots for the Christmas Show - and they used my journals!  Pretty sweet.

I am in the process of printing for the One of a Kind Christmas Show and Sale here in Toronto next month.  I have almost completely sold out of all of my small one of a kind monoprints, soI have cut a few new blocks and now the printing starts!

In late August I worked on a private commission.  The client purchased five tree images for their holiday card.  I retained the rights to use the blocks in my own prints.  One of the blocks that I cut was not used.  It was replaced with a similar, but wider tree.  I am now printing an edition using these two blocks. Two colours down and two or three to go.  It will be ready for the One of a Kind Show in November.

Production Time

I am working on prints for the One of a Kind Christmas Show and Sale in Toronto this November.  Only eight weeks to go!

Up on the Ridge

I took a Renter Mentor program at Open Studio in Toronto years ago so I could learn the basics of etching.  This is one of the prints I made then based on part of the landscape on the family farm in Cape Breton. Available for sale here.

Eight Square Carpet

Late last year I started to make one of a kind prints based on carpets from my imagination. I am using my collection of 1" x 1" Hundertwasser blocks.  I like the possibilities of pattern creation using rectangles and squares.
